In 2007, Brooklyn-based label Barbès put out a wonderful compilation of psychedelic surf-y jams from Peru and they’re at it again 3 years later with a second installment due out on October 12th. This time out, there’s a decided focus on urban stylings as the 16 songs recorded between 1968 and 1981 document life in the slums. This collection employs a more panoramic and perhaps accurate approach than its predecessor, including early Cuban-tinged groups as well as later material which fits closer to the Andean style.
