Julian Casablancas Not Present In The Strokes’ Recording Process

Julian Casablancas told NME in an interview that he has not been in the studio while The Strokes have been recording the music for their fourth album, in order to avoid interfering:

“I’m pretty opinionated. Nothing pushy to the point of it’s my way or no way, but I’ll hear a song and be like, ‘Hmmm, it feels like the bass should be like something different’. Whereas if I feel like I wasn’t in the room then they could just kind of spread their wings.”

In regards to the sound of the new album, which is expected to be out in September, Casablancas has this to say:

“(it) sounds probably more like the last record (2006’s First Impressions Of Earth), but I think I might funk it up a little(when he records the vocals)”.

When asked about why the band accepted several summer festivals, he gave a honest answer:

“Should I say the truth? Money,”…”Yeah. The offers were so crazy that we had to say yes.”
